Job Description

Position: Medical Record Manager
Facility: George Regional Hospital (George Regional Health System)
Schedule: Full-time, Days; 8:00am – 4:30pm
Reports to: Director Health Information, Compliance & Privacy Officer, Revenue Cycle
Supervises: All Medical Record Department Personnel

Position Overview
This position is responsible for the day to day supervision of the department and staff. The position also is responsible for ensuring that the policies, procedures and practices of the department are in compliance with all accrediting and/or regulatory standards. He/She coordinates the production of personnel engaged in analyzing, compiling, coding, data abstracting, indexing, scanning, release of information, performance improvement, statistical reporting, and electronic records. He/She will be an important part of the health system achieving our institutional goals.

This individual is a role model who leads by example and is committed to dealing with departmental and inter-departmental issues involving self or other employees in a professional and impartial manner. He/She communicates to appropriate personnel the specific meaning of the relevant components of the GRHS Corporate Compliance Program, HIPAA requirements, Coding Compliance, and data integrity to assure complete understanding and adherence.

Physical Demands
Work is mainly sedentary: involves sitting most of the time with regular requirements to move about the office, move about the facility, and to travel to another facility within the GRHS service area. Work involves exerting a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Work involves using repetitive motions: substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers while operating standard office equipment.

Mental Demands
Must demonstrate keen mental faculties/assessment and decision making abilities. Must demonstrate communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information in person, email, letter, and by telephone. Must possess emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress levels. Must demonstrate ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Special Demands
Job may require some traveling throughout the GRHS service area – with the employee providing his/her own transportation. Must have a valid driver license.

Required Qualifications

Graduate of an approved School for Health Information Management (bachelor or associate degree) and two (2) years of supervisory experience preferred. Candidates with a similar degree or years of experience may also apply. Candidates with electronic medical record conversion experience is a plus.
