The Discharge Not Final Billed (DNFB) Coordinator oversees, drives, and manages all work related to the daily DNFB, Hold, and Pending reports to ensure that all qualified accounts are complete and ready for coding and/or billing. Reviews, assigns, and performs work in work queues daily to ensure accounts ready to code or bill are routed to a coder or biller for timely completion and escalates to appropriate team members and leadership when work queues are outside of established performance expectations. The DNFB Coordinator prepares and reviews reports, processes trending reports, and evaluates documentation integrity to ensure coding and billing trends meet established thresholds. The DNFB Coordinator will monitor and escalate all accounts on hold to appropriate team members while establishing and maintaining long-term customer relationships with clinical departments, other revenue cycle departments, the coding team, CDI, leadership, and medical staff members. The DNFB Coordinator will collaborate with all stakeholders to remediate both uncoded and unbilled accounts as quickly as possible. The DNFB Coordinator identifies opportunities for workflow efficiencies and improvements and provides that feedback to management. The DNFB Coordinator will oversee the workflow of and provide guidance and direction to the DNFB Team. DNFB Team ordinarily consists of the Coding Physician Liaison and Coding Review Specialists but may also include Coders, Billers, and/or Third Party Collectors.

Job Description

  • Works directly with coding and billing staff as well as third-party vendors to achieve optimal coding and billing efficiency and consistency
    • Reviews status of pended or held accounts and provides assistance with resolving issues
    • Analyzes and distributes DNFB reporting, monitors and trends DNFB Statuses and Reasons, and provides direct follow up on delinquent accounts
    • Serves as a resource to providers and coding/billing staff regarding local coverage determinations and other reasons for coding and billing holds
    • Assists management with scheduled changes, staffing levels and overtime to maintain established DNFB metrics
    • In periods of high DNFB metrics, leads the DNFB Team in a project management capacity to include the development and execution of corrective action plans
  • Participates as a member of the team to achieve business goals, quality outcomes, and customer satisfaction
    • Provides assistance to team members as requested or required
    • Regular and timely attendance is required for this job
    • Participates on committees/councils and performance improvement activities as requested/required
    • Successful completion of probation and annual skills/competency requirements

Required Qualifications

Education: High School, GED or equivalent
Licensure:  Certificate CPC, CCA, CCS, CPC-H, RHIT, and/or RHIA
Experience:  Five (5) years of prior Revenue cycle experience and/or HIM experience

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Associate’s Degree or higher
