We are seeking a Compliance & Risk Specialist (hybrid position) that will have responsibility supporting and leading the organization’s efforts to maintain regulatory compliance through ACHC accreditation and continuous readiness, manage risks related to patient complaints and coordinate legal interactions, and uphold ethical standards in all healthcare activities. This role involves monitoring, coordinating, and facilitating compliance programs and risk management strategies to ensure the organization operates in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards as set forth by the Office of the Inspector General, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and other applicable bodies.

Compliance Monitoring and Reporting:

Monitor healthcare regulations, laws, and industry standards to ensure the organization remains compliant, which includes all current, new and retiring administrative policies.
Research federal, state and voluntary regulatory standards that relate to Medicare/Medicaid/CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) anti-kickback, fraud and abuse, ACHC regulations, and corporate ethics.
Assist with the planning for implementation of new state and federal government requirements within the organization.
Conduct regular audits, assessments, and reviews to identify compliance and risk issues.
Prepare and submit reports on compliance status to relevant stakeholders.
Lead a cross functional Compliance Committee including preparing appropriate documents, facilitating the conversation, and initiating projects/improvements/tasks based upon committee input and feedback.
Maintain and promote an anonymous reporting (a hotline) of situations of organizational risk or potential non-compliance.
Establish a consistent procedure for corrective, remedial, or disciplinary action, in collaboration with Human Resources and departmental leadership, as appropriate, to address failure to comply with standards, policies and procedures, and applicable laws and regulations related to federal and state healthcare programs.

Policy Development and Implementation:

Assist in the development, revision, and implementation of compliance and risk management policies, procedures, and guidelines. Ensure that policies are communicated effectively to employees.

Training and Education:

Develop educational materials and deliver compliance and risk management training programs to staff members and members of the medical staff.
Keep employees informed about changes in regulations and best practices.

Risk Assessment and Mitigation:

System Administrator for the internal incident reporting system.
Monitor and respond to risk related incidents reported.
Lead the process with our retained legal team for any litigation related incidents.
Serve as primary contact for legal counsel.

Reporting and Investigation:

Investigate compliance violations, incidents, and complaints.
Prepare reports on investigation findings and recommend corrective actions.

Documentation and Record-Keeping:

Maintain accurate and complete records related to compliance and risk management activities.
Ensure that documentation is easily accessible for audits and reviews.

Quality Improvement:

Identify opportunities for process improvement to enhance compliance and risk management efforts.
Implement continuous improvement initiatives as needed.

Required Qualifications

Licenses/Certifications: None

Knowledge/Skills and Abilities: Strong knowledge of healthcare regulations and laws, including CMS regulations, and other healthcare compliance standards (quality dept/regulatory/risk/compliance).

Preferred Qualifications

Licenses/Certifications: Certifications in healthcare compliance and/or risk management (e.g., Certified Risk Manager; Health Care Privacy Certification; Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC); Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional (CCEP))

Education Qualifications

Required: High School diploma

Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in healthcare related field
