Job Description
Mindseeker is looking for a Trauma Level 1 Inpatient Coder. Coder will be responsible for assigning diagnostic/procedural codes to patient charts of high complexity using ICD-10-CM, CPT and HCPCS or any other designated coding classification system in accordance with coding rules and regulations. Coder will respond to audits, conducts coding/provides consultation on specific projects. Coder must be able to adhere to set work schedule, Monday – Friday, normal office hours only.
Responsibilities:
-Assign ICD10 CM Diagnosis Codes and ICD 10 PCS Procedure Codes for assigned accounts.
IP/OP edits
-Select and sequence principal and secondary diagnosis and procedure codes.
-Assign appropriate DRG.
-Review the medical record and all applicable documentation to determine the appropriate codes to assign for the services and diagnoses.
-Demonstrates ability to achieve accuracy and consistency in abstracting elements defined by per facility.
-Maintain productivity standards, tracking and deadlines.
-Maintain and complete accurate productivity and tracking logs.
-May act as a mentor to training coders and/or new hires by providing education and training.
-Maintains current knowledge of the information contained in the Coding Clinic and the Official Inpatient -Guidelines for Coding and Reporting.
-Ability to meet productivity standards while maintaining a 95% accuracy rate.
-Minimum 21 Charts a day
Required Qualifications
-Must have a minimum of 5 years Acute Care Hospital Trauma I experience at a large facility
-Experience with IP coding trauma level
-Experience with complex case mixes
-Extensive knowledge of ICD-10 CM/PCS coding principles and guidelines, DRG Assignment, MCC/CC capture, federal, state and payor-specific regulations and policies pertaining to documentation, coding and billing
-EHR systems, encoder and other support software – EPIC, 3M 360, & Cerner
-Understands medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, surgical technology, pharmacology and disease processes
-A high-level coding accuracy, critical thinking skills and attention to detail
-Strong interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written
-Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
-Maintain productivity standards, tracking and deadlines.
-Maintain and complete accurate productivity and tracking logs.
Education Qualifications
Licenses/Certifications; CCS, CCS-P, RHIT, or RHIA preferred
