Introduction
The Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council (PHC4), a state agency that collects, analyzes, and reports health care data, is seeking a health information specialist in the Harrisburg area.
Job Description
Primary responsibilities include advanced technical work on the classification and interpretation of codified health care data related to the agency’s inpatient and outpatient claims and the maintenance of large, complex centralized definitions tables.
Develops ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT-4/HCPCS Level II code and MS-DRG definitions for use in research studies of interest under the direction of the Research Manager.
Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) inpatient and outpatient prospective payment systems (IPPS and OPPS) related to MS-DRG changes, billing code changes, etc.
Maintains up-to-date know of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Hospital Readmission Reduction Program (HRRP), Hospital-Acquired Condition Reduction Program (HACRP) and other quality and claims-based program measures.
Required Qualifications
Considerable experience using ICD-10-CM/PCS, MS-DRGs, CPT-4 and HCPCS Level II codes and Microsoft Office products is required.
At least one of the following is required:
- Certification as a coding specialist from an accredited health information program such as a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS®) as specified by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and at least one year of professional experience working as an inpatient coder for an acute care hospital.
- Certification as a Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) as specified by Association for Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists (ACDIS) or Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP®) as specified by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and at least one year of professional experience working as a documentation specialist in an acute care hospital.
- Certification as a Registered Health Information Administrator/Technician (RHIA® or RHIT®) as specified by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and at least one year of professional experience working in a health information management position in a hospital, other health care facility, or health care organization.
Preferred Qualifications
Technical writing experience is a plus.
