Job Description

The Health Information Management Coordinator is a full-time non-exempt position, M-F 8 am-5 pm. You will provide direction to the Health Information Management coding department, coordinating all ongoing activities related to the development, implementation, maintenance of, and adherence to the organization’s policies and procedures covering the Health Information Management coding department and the coding and processing of patient health records in compliance with federal and state laws and the healthcare organization’s information privacy practices.
Essential Functions:
• Directs the HIM coding functions of the Scott County Hospital, ensuring coding operations are executed in an effective and efficient manner
• Participates in hospital committees, task force committees, and other meetings as appropriate or assigned
• Monitors health information management system and sets the healthcare system’s standards for data quality to ensure the integrity, completeness, and accuracy of medical records
• Works collaboratively with Medical Staff and Facility Leadership to comply with standards and guidelines enforced through the Medical Staff Bylaws/Rules and Regulations

Required Qualifications

• Possesses the ability to work independently and make critical decisions while following company procedures
• Has strong leadership skills; ability to influence others to perform their jobs effectively and responsible for making decisions
• Possesses the ability to demonstrate conduct conforming to a set of values and accepted standards
• Certification as Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) required

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience of two or more years preferred

Education Qualifications

• Associates degree in Health Information Management
