Job Description

Supports the HIM Operations Coordinator in the following manner: monitors, researches, reviews, corrects and assists in the resolution of data integrity problems within Electronic Medical Record (EMR) in Health Information Management (HIM) by working with system end users to ensure accurate record processing procedures are followed.
Under the direction of departmental leadership, responsible for recommending, development and implementation of policies and procedures for manual and computerized documentation integrity functions to align with Medical Staff Rules and Regulations.
Conducts documentation integrity audits within the EMR to confirm accuracy of health record analysis and provides feedback to Health Information Management clerks on prepping, scanning, and/or indexing.
Maintains the timely completion of the medical record through record analysis, deficiency notification, and monitoring of record completion.
Monitors unbilled and incomplete medical records to expedite billing. Contacts physicians for attestation completion. Monitors work queues in McKesson Patient Folder (MPF) to ensure timely record processing.
Provides education to the HIM Department regarding new or revised forms for accurate record processing and analysis by staff.
Monitors and completes reports to meet informational needs of the HIM department and other hospital staff.
Provides education to physicians and mid-level providers to assist in record documentation completion and training for record integrity.
Provides the timely distribution and completion of birth certificate information to new mothers, in a coordinated effort with the nursing staff. Distributes, records, in puts and submits birth certification to the State Department of Health for all live births; including daily distribution and collection of birth certificate worksheets and information relative to establishing paternity to any unmarried mother directly by the State of Iowa. Collects all appropriate fees for birth certificate registration and forwards to the State Department of Public Health.
Assists departmental leadership in monitoring Centers for Medicare and Medicaid and The Joint Commission documentation requirements and participates in process improvement initiatives to facilitate organizational compliance.
Analyzes workflows to improve efficiency for record processing within EMR and recommends any necessary workflow changes to the HIM Operation Coordinator.
Creates, monitors, and provides reports on employee processing performance goals, data integrity issues, and analysis functions to assure consistency with hospital policies by providing audit reports to the Manager, Health Information Management.
Works closely and assists the HIM Operations Coordinator in monitoring the accuracy and consistency of data interface design, implementation and maintenance of departmental databases to EMR.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Experience:
Three years equivalent health care experience required in a health care environment with an electronic health record (EHR).
Must have a good working knowledge of an electronic health record (EHR) either through experience or education.
Possess excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication.
Excellent customer service, analytical, problem solving, and presentation skills.
Certification:
Certification(s), Licensure(s) & Registration(s)Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) within 36 months of employment
Demonstrate satisfactory completion of Medical Terminology course within 12 months of employment

Education Qualifications

Education:
Associates Degree in Health Information Management, information systems, or health care related field – required
Bachelors Degree in Health Information Management or related field – preferred
