Introduction

Northern Regional Hospital in Mount Airy, North Carolina, is looking for a full time Director of Health Information Management. A successful candidate must have a BS in Health Information Management, a current AHIMA credential of RHIA, and a CCS and CHPS credential is preferred. We are seeking 7 – 10 years leadership experience in a 50-150 bed facility, with experience in management and maintenance of all patient medical records in the following settings: acute hospital, skilled nursing, and ambulatory practices. Applicant should understand compliance with all State and Federal laws and regulations of licensing agencies, and must have excellent revenue cycle experience, as well as experience acting as the Privacy Officer.

Job Description

Plan and coordinate all services provided by the Health Information Management Department, to include Professional coding functions. Successfully manage the organizational and administrative operation of these departments. Serves as the Organization’s Privacy Officer. Participates in various hospital committees to include, but not limited to, SCAT (Standards, Compliance and Accreditation Team), Revenue Cycle Team, Utilization Review, Denial Committee, and Compliance Committee. Leads the RC (Record Chapter) Team for Joint Commission readiness. Assists with tracking and trending data throughout the organization. Has contact with all levels of Management Staff, Medical Staff, employees, and the general public. Ensures the strict confidentiality of patient information.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management
• Credentialing through the American Health Information Management Association (RHIA)
• Seven – ten years leadership experience in 50-150 bed hospital facility in Health Information Management
• Comprehensive knowledge of Joint Commission requirements and Medicare requirements
• Ability to manage support staff
• Knowledge of relevant systems to include encoder and transcription/dictation equipment
• Knowledge and experience with electronic medical record implementation and maintenance
• Vast Knowledge of HIPAA requirements
• Working knowledge of ICD-10, CPT Coding principles, case mix monitoring, professional coding and quality coding
• Highly motivated and self-directed
• Highly developed written and verbal skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of MEDITECH Expanse
• Knowledge of 3M
• Privacy officer experience
• Credentialing through the American Health Information Management Association (CHPS)
