 Minimum Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree in Business or Healthcare related field. Consideration will be given to candidate with Associate’s degree and/or recent, relevant experience and education.
  • Certification as a Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) is desirable.
  • Two or more years in Health Information Management (HIM) is required.
  • Previous experience and demonstrated proficiency in multiple HIM and desktop applications.  Experience with Cerner PowerChart is preferred.
  • Proficiency in developing and presenting educational training materials is required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills is required.
  • Ability to apply The Joint Commission requirements, HCFA regulations, HIPAA regulations, Medical Staff Rules and Regulations, and department procedures when reviewing a medical record to identify deficiencies that could jeopardize hospital certification, legal and/or financial status.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and multitask.
  • Prioritize work and meet project deadlines.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, demonstrated ability to coordinate events and staff activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with a range of health care professionals.
  • Must be able to effectively handle sensitive and high stress situations; exercises a high degree of confidentiality, diplomacy and discretion.
  • No managerial responsibilities, but has the ability to act on behalf of the management staff in their absence.
  • Requires customer relations education (e.g. AIDET, Dealing with Difficult People or Workplace Violence Prevention) within the probationary period.
  • Requires successful completion of Medical Terminology within the probationary period if not previously obtained.

Job Description

Education Coordinator Health Information Management

Reporting to the Regional HIM Manager, the Educator/Coordinator will serve as the point of contact for Otsego Hospital Health Information Management/Release of Information (HIM/ROI) Department and the Local Privacy Officer.  This position is responsible for all daily Health Information Management Department functions and local privacy related functions. Ensures execution of processes and procedures for the local privacy officer. Analyzes outcomes, and collaborates across hospitals to identify and leverage solutions to achieve metrics.  Provides excellent service to customers and stakeholders through one-on-one interactions with consumers, physicians, office staff and hospital process owners.
