The HIM Manager works under the general supervision of the University Health Services (UHS) Associate Director of Health Informatics and Information Management (HIIM). This position assists in determining the strategic departmental goals, develops tracking metrics, performs routine audits of the electronic medical record, and supports determination of direction for staffing to ensure students receive quality services. Provides direct support and supervises the day-to-day operations of the HIM Team as well as provides professional development opportunities. Evaluates personnel and operational activities of the HIM Team to meet departmental and organizational goals. Ensures that HIM services are of optimal quality, are cost effective, up-to-date, and in accordance with all applicable rules, laws, and policies. Manages and implements departmental level policies
Initiates, develops, and implements operational services that support a defined project, program, work unit, or function to advance program goals and objectives. May supervise staff and/or approve unit expenditures.
10% Plans, implements, executes, and evaluates existing strategies and objectives for a program and makes recommendations to unit leadership for program or function enhancement
20% Identifies workflow needs, contributes to the development of strategic and operational solutions, allocates resources, and implements new or revised unit operational policies and procedures
25% May exercise supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 FTE or equivalent employees
25% Schedules logistics and secures resources for program activities across multiple work units to ensure optimum efficiency and compliance with appropriate policies, procedures, and specifications
15% Leads the development and preparation of periodic reports and financial statements, and records progress, status, or other special reports for leadership or external agencies
5% May assist in the development and monitoring of the unit or program budget and approve unit expenditures
-Minimum of five (5) years of HIM experience
-Minimum of two (2) years coordinator or supervisory experience
-Demonstrated outstanding customer service
-Ability to effectively motivate a team to meet departmental and organizational goals
-Knowledge of regulatory, federal, and state laws governing health care records, privacy, security, and confidentiality
-Technical documentation skills and basic competence in Word and Excel
-Excellent presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
-Completion of a CAHIIM accredited program leading to a HIT Certificate; RHIT, RHIA highly preferred
-Extensive knowledge or experience working with the Point and Click (PnC) electronic medical record (EMR) system
