Certified Professional Coder

 

Job Description

The certified professional coder role is critical to the successful revenue management cycle of the anesthesia/pain management practice.  This role requires a commitment to continuous professional development, detail focus, and the ability to work independently for extended periods of time.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Review medical records and assign the appropriate and accurate ICD-10-CM diagnoses, CPT® codes and modifiers.
  • Maintain Coding Department workflow at the expected minimum accuracy rate of 95%.
  • Maintain the expected productivity level.
  • Comply with Coding Department policies per practice requirements
  • Comply with all practice policies and procedures.
  • Maintain continuing educational criteria to retain coding certification.
  • Verification of certification and credentialing are required.
  • Extensive knowledge of the current ICD-10-CM Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of CPT® codes surgical procedures and ASA codes.
  • Comprehensive understanding of concurrency is calculated.
  • Abide by the HIPAA Security Rules and all other Information Security Policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Utilizes all resources available ensuring compliance to federal/regulatory and insurance requirements and provisions
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment and maintain a collaborative approach to reaching targets and goals

 

 

 

Required Qualifications

Qualifications/Education/Experience

 

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Certification as a Certified Coding Specialist-Physician (CCS-P) through AHIMA (American Health Information Association), or certified by AAPC (American Association Professional Coders) with certification as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC).
  • Minimum 2 years ICD-9 and CPT coding experience is required
  • Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy
  • Integrity is essential (doing the right thing, even when no one is watching)
  • Must be able to sit and read text or handwritten notes on a computer for long periods of time.
  • Detail oriented, organized with good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and prioritize daily assignments
  • Maintain an approved work schedule and adherence to attendance guidelines
  • Experience coding anesthesia or pain management a plus

Preferred Qualifications

Anesthesia and Pain specialty coding experience a plus!

CPC, RHIT and RHIA certified applicants will be considered

Education Qualifications

High School Diploma or higher
