Coyote Ridge Corrections Center (CRCC)
The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for one (1) full time position of Health Records Technician 1 at Coyote Ridge Corrections Center.

COYOTE RIDGE CORRECTIONS CENTER (CRCC) is located on a 60-acre site about 40 miles north of the Tri-Cities. CRCC is comprised of two-complexes. The Main Security Complex (MSC) is a 2,048 bed facility that houses offenders with Medium and MI3 Custody. MSC consists of 4 Hybrid units and 4 Medium units. The Minimum Security Unit (MSU) is a 480 bed facility that houses assisted living and MI2 Custody offenders. MSU consists of 2 units. This is a work/program orientated facility that offers many educational, vocational, and self-help programs and Class II and Class III Correctional Industries work programs.

Job Description

The Health Records Technician 1 is primarily responsible for the health records which are housed in the Health Service Unit. This position oversees the handling of approximately 2500 health records between the Medium Security Complex and the Minimum Security Unit. This position is responsible for the management, processing and disclosure of offender health information and also serves as a lead to the health records support staff.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Review and process public record requests/disclosures for offender, medical, dental and mental health information, verify validity of authorizations for disclosure of health information
  • Meet with offenders, attorneys, DOC staff and others for review of health records as required for public disclosure
  • Monitor processes to ensure efficient, timely and accurate handling of offender health records
  • Assist in the development, implementation and administration of offender health records processes
  • Health Records Management
  • Schedule and meet with offenders requesting medical record reviews
  • Audit charts periodically for compliance with DOC Health Information Management Protocols
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
  • Ability to model ethical behavior
  • Ability to: Analyze data for standardization; determine common form characteristics; make flow charts; use numerical/functional file system; design multiple-part forms; present recommendations concerning forms design and records control, processing, retention and destruction
  • Knowledge of: Systems analysis; forms requirements for data processing and other automated equipment; printing processes; composition techniques; policies and procedures related to records management applications and use of microforms; filing systems and equipment.

*Combined experience in the above areas may be substituted year for year for the experience desired.

*Positions generally require current and ongoing accreditation through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree and at least two years of experience in Health Information Management (medical records) or in a healthcare privacy and/or compliance office or related area.

Compensation/Benefits

$3,901.00 – $5,107.00 Monthly

Employees also have the ability to participate in the Deferred Compensation Program (DCP).  This is a supplemental retirement savings program (similar to an IRA) that allows you control over the amount of pre-tax salary dollars you defer as well as the flexibility to choose between multiple investment options.

Full-time employees earn eight hours of sick leave per month. Paid sick leave may be used for reasons included in WAC 357-31-130.
