Job Description

Dakota State University is seeking a dynamic health information management faculty member for a 9-month tenure-track faculty position beginning Fall 2021. The Health Information Management Department within the College of Business and Information Systems is the second university in the United States to offer CAHIIM-accredited M.S. in Health Informatics and Information Management, B.S. in Health Information Administration, and A.S. Health Information Technology degrees. In addition, DSU offers a graduate certificate in Healthcare Data Analytics and undergraduate certificates including Healthcare Coding and Health Information Specialist. DSU also offers a minor in Health Information Management, specializations in Health Information Systems at the master’s and doctoral level of the Information System program, emphasis in Health Informatics in the MBA program, and Healthcare Data Analytics track in the Master of Science in Analytics program.

• Master’s degree in health information management, health informatics, or related field
• Certification as an RHIA
• Active membership in AHIMA.
• Applicants must have at least 4 years of experience in the health information management or health informatics field
• Excellent computer knowledge in Microsoft applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access
• Knowledge of health information management applications
• Demonstrate proficiency in oral and written communication
• Enthusiasm for engagement

In addition to the above requirements:
• Demonstrated competency in ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT classification systems and computer assisted coding software
• Doctoral degree in HIM or related field
• Prior online teaching experience

Responsibilities include teaching face-to-face and online, advising, scholarly activity and service to the college, university, and HIM profession, including active participation in the program’s advisory committees and evaluation of the program. Salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications and experience. Supplemental contracts for grant-funded research and/or teaching may also be available.
