In a career as a Manager of Coding and Clinical Documentation Integrity, you join us in providing life-changing care to patients from across the region. In this role, you will perform duties of significant difficulty in the management of all operations and functions in CDI, charge reconciliation, coding and charge entry for all hospital and physician services at Boys Town National Research Hospital. Recommend changes in process and procedure to affect savings in time, labor and costs, focused on improving operating efficiency and overall good health of the BTNRH Revenue Cycle.
Oversees the interviewing, selection and evaluation of performance of the CDI program, charge reconciliation, coding, code audit and charge entry staff. Ensures proper supervision of daily activities of all personnel in the above functions, providing coaching, mentoring and discipline as necessary to direct and indirect reports, for optimal performance and an overall healthy revenue cycle.
Manages the CDI program, charge reconciliation, coding, code audit and charge entry work, per Revenue Cycle protocol, Coding Compliance Plan and dedicated procedures, providing education as pertinent to Revenue Cycle staff, as well as clinical staff, with focus on appropriate coding, charging and documentation support.
Develops, revises, and implements policies and procedures for the CDI program, charge reconciliation, coding, code audit and charge entry functions. Ensuring proper training of new personnel on appropriate Revenue Cycle operations, including new equipment, software and procedural changes.
Serves as a subject matter expert and primary contact for CDI, and both professional and facility (outpatient hospital and inpatient) coding while ensuring BTNRH is operating within the Coding and Compliance rules and regulations and adjusting to changes while focused on minimizing risk and maximizing BTNRH revenue opportunities.
Implements and monitors internal productivity measures and controls using system reports and other pertinent information, to include auditing processes, to ensure the CDI program, charge reconciliation, coding, code audit and charge entry staff’s work is efficient and accurate, ultimately ensuring all key performance indicators are consistently maintained.
Associate or Bachelor degree in business, healthcare or related field preferred
Minimum of 6 years’ experience in Physician and/or Hospital Coding, including experience with audit and quality assurance with extensive knowledge and understanding of ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS, CPT-4, HCPCS Level II, Revenue Code assignments, coding systems, medical terminology, abbreviations, anatomy & physiology and disease
Current applicable coding or health information certification (CPC and CIC required; if not currently certified, must be obtained within 6 months of hire and maintained throughout tenure with BTNRH)
Minimum of 3 years leadership experience in a managerial role required
Extensive experience with healthcare systems, including analytics and integration focus on EMR and Coding
Excellent interpersonal skills, close attention to detail, math aptitude, and analytical/organizational skills
Computer skills experience to include proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
Ability to maintain an appropriate level of confidentiality required.
