The HIM Operations Manager is responsible for assisting the Director with supervising daily operations of the HIM Department to ensure compliance with hospital, state, federal, and accreditation guidelines.

JOB SUMMARY:

The HIM Operations Manager is responsible for assisting the Director with supervising daily operations of the HIM Department to ensure compliance with hospital, state, federal, and accreditation guidelines. This position supervises, monitors, coaches HIM team members and manages the following areas:

chart reconciliation
medical record process (prepping, document scanning, indexing)
analyzing records and deficiency management
transcription
physician suspension process
meaningful use duties
birth and death certificate processing
The Operations Manager also assists the Director with managing the department’s workflow processes, identifying opportunities for improvement, and recommending and implementing procedures to resolve problems. This position assists the Director with:
supervising the Cancer Registrar to ensure compliance with state guidelines
conducting medical record audits and aggregating data for Joint Commission compliance
providing education and training for physicians and residents
oversight of the hospital’s Forms Committee and forms approval process

Required Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Completion of an accredited program in Health Information Management required. Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Information Management preferred but a minimum of an Associate Degree in Health Information Management or equivalent is required. Minimum of 5 years supervisory experience in a Health Information Management Department preferred. Knowledge of Information Services Systems and Transcription Systems, preferably McKesson One Content. Knowledge of requirements for Joint Commission, CMS, HITECH and HIPAA Privacy and Security. Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) required. Demonstrated ability to lead, supervise, train, and monitor employees. Ability to write, update, develop and implement policies, procedures, and quality and productivity standards for prepping, scanning, indexing, analysis, and transcription. Ability to monitor and complete weekly/monthly reports on productivity, while identifying problems areas and implementing procedures and training to resolve problems. Working knowledge of an electronic medical record system and its components, preferably McKesson One Content. Proficiency with computers. Excellent time management, organization, and communication (verbal and written) skills. Good customer service and interpersonal skills. Ability to read, write, and handle verbal and written instructions.
