Supervises and manages the functions of the Outpatient Charge Capture Section of the HIM Department. Manages the E&M level and procedural and other specific charging functions for the designated areas. Responsible for the staffing and workflow coordination, maintaining current processes, policies and procedures relevant to the program.
Manages and supervises the processes and staff for the charge entry programs:
ED & Express Cares charge entry program for facility/technical charging requirements: including chart review, data abstraction, data input and data validation as needed for charging and E&M level assignment. Providing monitoring, reporting, policy and procedure revision, overall program management.
Express Care charge entry program, professional charging requirements for designated express cares: including chart review, data abstraction, data input and data validation as needed for charging and E&M level assignment. Providing monitoring, reporting, policy and procedure revision, overall program management.
Observation charge entry program: including chart review, data abstraction and data input for charging of infusions and injections for designated areas of observation services, as well as validation of OBS hours for charging assignments. Providing monitoring, reporting, policy and procedure revision, overall program management.
Bachelors Degree preferred, either in Nursing or Health Information Management or equivalent training and experience. Graduate from an accredited school of nursing, LPN minimum. OR Graduate from an approved health information management program, RHIT minimum. CPC or CCS-P coding credential required.
Minimum requirement of five years related experience in a clinical setting, with two years of supervisory/management experience, preferably in a large health care system. Minimum of two years experience specifically related to E&M level charge processing and related functions for facility and/or professional charging. Proficiency in computer software applications, interfaces and/or electronic health records. EPIC experience preferred.
