Medical Records Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:

Health Information Manager is responsible for maintaining and securing all written and electronic medical records within a facility’s medical records department or its equivalent. Also ensure that information contained in the record is complete, accurate and only available to authorized personnel. Other duties include overseeing personnel for the entire department, which can include medical record technicians (also known as health information technicians), medical coding specialists, medical secretaries and file clerks.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Work alongside the Director of HIM to ensure that the Medical records department and the clinical coding function is customer focused and responsive to the needs of the organization.
  • To assist in managing the HIM functions to ensure it meets all objective within time scales and budget, including statutory requirements around date protection data management of medical records
  • To support the investigation of medical records complaints
  • Code procedure and operative reports to determine correct procedure and ICD10 code(s).
  • Maintain appropriate continuing education requirements, as well as staying abreast of coding regulatory guidelines to ensure coding compliance.
  • Responsible for overseeing the working of claims that come back from MedAssts in XClaims to ensure bills go out the door in a timely manner  
  • Demonstrates and encourages team behavior and exceptional patient/guest experiences. 
  • Upholds and promotes patient safety and quality.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience:

  • 5 years experience with hospital medical record coding required
  • Prior supervisor experience preferred
  • Associates degree in HIM required; Bachelor’s degree preferred

Licensure/Certification:

  • Certified by the American Health Information Management Association as a Registered Health Information technician (RHIT) or a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
