Certified Medical Coder

Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized medical coder to join our growing team. In this position, your primary responsibility will be in reviewing and analyzing medical billing and coding for processing. You will review and accurately code office and hospital procedures for reimbursement.

Job Description

• Receive and review patient charts and documents for accuracy
• Ensure that all codes are current and active
• Report missing or incomplete documentation
• Meet daily coding production
• Update and maintain document lists
• Performs accurate charge entries
• Ensure proper coding on provider documentation
• Serves as resource regarding coding questions
• follows coding guidelines and legal requirements to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations
• Performs additional duties assigned by Coding Manager as needed

Required Qualifications

• High school degree or equivalent
• Medical Coding Certificate: CPC, COC, CIC by AAPC or CCS, CCS-P, RHIT by AHIMA
• Maintain coding certification and attends in-service training as required
• Two (2) years of medical coding experience
• Understanding of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology
• Ability to work independently or as an active member of a team
• Strong computer skills in data entry, coding, and knowledge of Electronic Medical Record software; Microsoft Office Suite
• Accurate and precise attention to detail
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Goal-oriented, organized team player

Education Qualifications

• High school degree or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred

Compensation/Benefits

Medical Plan
Eligible: Full-time and Part-time employees.
Effective: First day of the month after 30 days of employment

Two Blue Cross Blue Shield options are available:
CHS Base Plan- lower employee per pay contribution with higher out-of-pocket costs.
CHS Premier Plan- higher employee per pay contribution with lower out-of-pocket costs.

Long Term Disability (LTD)

Short Term Disability (STD)

Employees can purchase STD to cover 60% of monthly income up to $5,000 per month. 14 day qualification period after illness or injury.

Critical Illness & Accident

Flexible Spending Accounts
Eligible: Full-time and Part-time employees.

Employees elect pre-tax payroll deduction, per federal regulations, to be used for medical/dental or childcare expenses. Money credited into the FSA accounts is reimbursed to the employee for eligible expenses. Debit card available.

Retirement Plan

Eligible: All employees can enroll in the 401(k) plan upon hire.

Our retirement plan is offered through a Principal Financial Group 401(k).
Traditional 401(k) and Roth 401(k) are offered .
After one year of employment, employer matches 50% of the first 6% deferred.

Paid Time Off (PTO)
Eligible: Full-time and Part-time employees.
Effective: PTO accrual begins with the first pay period of service. Accrued PTO can be used after
90 day introductory period and is “vested” after six months of service.

Employees may use PTO for sick, vacation, and holidays. A PTO cash out at 70% is offered twice a year in accordance with terms of the policy.

PTO is accrued on hours worked, up to 80 hours in a pay period.
Accrual rates per years of service:

Extended Illness Bank (EIB)
Eligible: Full-time and Part-time employees.
Effective: Accrual begins with the first pay period and may be used after 6 months of service.

EIB may be used after an employee has been off work due to personal illness or injury for one scheduled FTE week per occurrence.
Accrual rates: Full time – 2.16 hours per period Part time – 1.08 hours per pay period

Bereavement Pay
Eligible: Full-time and Part-time employees who have completed their introductory period.

When an employee suffers the loss of family members the employee may be granted up to 24 hours for leave from scheduled work time within a five-day period.

Jury Duty Pay
Eligible: Full-time and Part-time employees
Employees may receive their normal base wages for up to 15 days of scheduled work that is missed due to jury duty.

Tuition Assistance
Eligible: Full-time and Part-time employees who have successfully completed their 90-day introductory period and are approved for the program.

Eligible employees may request prior approval for financial assistance for courses offered by a college, university or approved accredited educational institution. Courses must be intended to maintain or improve skills related to the employee’s present work assignment or be a requirement for a relevant degree that is approved by the organization.

Maximum annual reimbursement:
Full-time $5,000 for approved nursing school $2,500 for other approved programs
Part-time $2,500 for approved nursing school $1,250 for other approved programs

Cafeteria Discount
Eligible: All employees
Employees receive a 25% discount on all purchases at the hospital cafeteria (except vending machines).

Wellness Center Discount
Eligible: All employees
The Wellness Center is located at NMC Medical Office Plaza, 1980 Hospital Dr., Ste 103.
Open 24 hours with Cardio and Weight equipment.
Cost is $5.00 per pay period or $65.00 for six month period.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
Eligible: All employees
The EAP provides confidential assistance with a variety of personal issues and includes 5 free counseling sessions for an issue. Additional counseling services may continue through eligible medical plan services.
