This position provides instruction to a diverse student population in Health Information Management (HIM) and Health Care Core (HCC) areas with focus on Health Information Technology AAS Degree and Certificate Programs.

Works in collaboration with other health care programs in the delivery of comprehensive programs.

Leads/directs/plans/develops/evaluates selected health information management programs as Programs Director.

Job Description

Provides direction for on and off campus Health Information Technology and Certificate Program; advises students regarding program requirements, schedules, assists with the registration process, and addresses student issues; collaborates with the Advisement Department, the Curriculum Office and department personnel in the planning and delivery of Health Information Programs; develops and updates curriculum and program materials including program promotional materials; serves as the area curriculum expert at the College and District level; maintains national Health Information Technology program accreditation and coding program approval, standards, and required reports; participates in budget process for the Health Information programs; recruits, hires, mentors, and evaluates adjunct faculty for Health Information courses as needed; completes required campus assessments and reports for assigned programs; oversees the implementation of technology in health information applications and course delivery; directly supervises health information laboratory instructor.

Provides instruction to a diverse student population in a variety of Health Information Management and Health Care Core classes; supervises and instructs students in the classroom and laboratory; develops and updates syllabi, course materials, and course assessments specific to the programs as it relates to the changing needs of health care students; conducts office hours that are convenient for students.

Required Qualifications

1. A master’s degree in the teaching field, OR A master’s in any teaching field with 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching field OR a bachelor’s degree plus 3 years work experience in the field to be taught, OR an associate’s degree or 64 semester hours and 5 years work experience in the field to be taught, OR 5 years work experience in the field to be taught

2. EDU 250 – Teaching and Learning in the Community College or equivalent must be completed within two years of the date of hire

 

  • Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D driver’s license is required; must meet minimum standards regarding driving: http://www.maricopa.edu/legal/rmi/vehicle.htm#requirements
  • CAHIIM Accreditation requires a baccalaureate degree for this position.Copy of current AHIMA certification as either Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT
  • Includes independent travel to various educational and health care sites as necessary

Preferred Qualifications

A. Master’s Degree in any area teaching field with 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching field, Health Information Management and Technology

B.Three (3) or more years within the last five years of experience in health information management or related field

C. Experience teaching within an educational or health care setting within the last ten (10) years

D. Application of innovative instructional techniques including classroom technology and nontraditional instruction (online, video)

E. Experience with health information management software programs (i.e., encoder, electronic health record)

F.  Experience working with a diverse population
