In this role you will be responsible for:

  • The Assistant Vice President for Health Information Management directs and manages all aspects of Health Information Management for all Einstein Healthcare Network facilities including two acute care hospitals, acute rehab facility, and skilled nursing facility
  • Develops policies, procedures and standards to optimize hospital revenue goals and objectives, prepares the annual department budget, and ensures department activities are in compliance with hospital policies, government and accrediting agency regulations and third-party payer requirements
  • Oversees coding functions and manages regulatory audit and appeal activities related to financial and compliance audits. Manages the Clinical Documentation Improvement process
  • Plans, organizes and provides overall direction for all Health Information Management functions for Einstein Healthcare Network?s multiple facilities. Monitors and evaluates departmental performance and implements changes to improve services, simplify work flow, and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements
  • Prepares departmental budgets for Health Information Management. Ensures adherence to approved budgetary allocations. Maintains budgetary statistics to ensure accuracy of departmental expense records
  • Plans, develops and coordinates work flow and other process improvement efforts to optimize the use of departmental systems
  • Directs all facility based coding to ensure accurate coding and quality reporting as well as compliant reimbursement. Ensures revenue cycle targets are met
  • Plans and directs all Clinical Documentation Improvement activities
  • Educate the medical staff on compliant documentation requirements that meet regulatory requirements as well as how their documentation impacts the organizations quality scores and revenue
  • Participates in compliance activities. Takes direction from the Compliance/Privacy Officer in compliance audits and other assignments
  • Compiles, interprets, and evaluates statistical reports relative to HIM Services and the revenue cycle
  • Serves as the subject matter expert for all HIM requirements/needs, especially during clinical systems implementation and upgrades
  • Manage and coordinates the activities of the Medical Record Committees for each acute care site
  • Directs the activities for forms/legal record output approval process through the Network Forms Committee
  • Direct all of the outsourced scanning activities for Einstein Philadelphia and Montgomery physician practices
  • Serves as a key member of the revenue cycle ensuring HIM supports the Network?s goals and initiatives
  • Participates in a variety of meetings/committees as required. Represents the department in a positive manner. Works with other Department Directors to resolve issues and problem
  • Interviews and recruits staff. Assigns, trains and motivates employees. Disciplines and terminates employees when necessary

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management required with an MPA or Master’s in Health Administration preferred
  • Minimum of five years’ experience as a Director or Assistant Director of a Health Information Management Department in a large, teaching hospital or healthcare system
  • Experience with various information system applications for Health Information Management required
  • Extensive experience with Electronic Medical Record applications is essential
  • Demonstrated problem solving and interpersonal skills are required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and broad knowledge and experience with the practice of Health Information Management
  • RHIA or RHIT required. (Registered Health Information Administrator or Registered Health Information Technician)
