Position Summary:   This position is to provide support to the coding department by addressing coding issues, inquiries and questions posed through various mechanisms. These various venues include the help desk (track-it system), coding queues in the Prism software, and coding related projects. The person may also provide support for audits and research on new or revised payer guidelines.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:


Works coding related denials, follow up, and coding related projects as assigned.

Research new codes and carrier policies as assigned.

Act as a resource for non-coding manager and staff for queries related to coding conventions, compliance questions, and client coding questions.

Assists in the delivery of appropriate specialty specific coding education for providers within their respective departments and assigned clients.

Ensure the tracking system. Track-It, for internal inquiries and projects are up to date and answered within prescribed turn-around times..

Along with the VP of Coding, serve as a coding point of contact for questions and inquiries from various parties including but not limited to Clients, Customer Service Management, Accounts Resolution, Charge Entry, Payment Posting, and Training.

Effectively communicate with physicians as necessary regarding coding and documentation issues.

Develop and implement training and education programs for coders and physicians

Work on assigned coding projects to adjudicate claims in a timely basis that require investigation and interpretation of Medicare and other third party guidelines pertaining to coding.

Work the coding queues in the billing system and ensure all tasks are answered timely within specified turn-around times (TAT).

Aid in prospective feedback (PFB) for clients as requested.

Support coding department staff in times of new installations, backlogs, vacation coverage, etc., with coding, batch closing and any other duties as assigned by the VP of Coding and Compliance.

Required Qualifications

Minimum Experience

Minimum 2-4 years NLP software user experience

Minimum 5-7 years medical coding experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum preferred 3-5 years radiology coding experience.
