Virtual Coding Roundtable – Hypertension: A Common Condition with Deadly Consequences

December 8, 2018
10:00 AM – 11:00 AM ET

Attendees will gain useful clinical data on the prevalence, pathophysiology, etiology and manifestations of hypertension. Dr. Mann will discuss the JNC criteria for establishing the diagnosis and its interaction with conditions such as stroke and heart failure. The presentation will also cover commonly associated procedures, such as dialysis when CKD is present due the HTN. HIM professionals will take away key elements of when to query and when not to query based on provider documentation. The information presented will also help coders and auditors to gain a better clinical picture of this disease and its impact on patients.

This presentation will focus on how these disciplines might be used.

1 CEU – Privacy/Security

1 – 2 PM – Pharmacology for Coders: DELIVERY, PHARMACODYNAMICS, PHARMACOKINETICS

Presenter: Ed O’Beirne, CCS, PA, CDIP, Director of HIM Revenue Integrity, Health Resource Group

This presentation will describe the fundamentals of pharmacology to enhance the participants’ insight into the clinical care of the patient as it affects their understanding of the coding scenario. Emphasis will be given on routes of administration, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and toxicity.

ICD-10 and Pharmacology – Pharmacology Part 3: Nutritional, Electrolyte and Water Substances, Anti-Arrhythmics, Hormones, and Local Anesthetics

PHIMA would like to continue your ICD-10 education with series of audio conferences on pharmacology.

The goal of this series will be to familiarize coders with the classifications of drugs and  biological contained in ICD-10-PCS. For  example, in ICD-10-PCS matrix of 3EO, there are a number of medications and biological included in the classification. These sessions will address what are the frequent medications that fall into those headings. This series will provide backgrounds on those substances, common usages, and routes of administration.
